Banyuwangi, East Java, 8 March 2024<\/strong> \u2013 The Government of Banyuwangi announced that it has been awarded the Adipura Trophy and Plaque for the best waste management system in Indonesia. The Adipura trophy and plaque are part of the Indonesia\u2019s Ministry of Environment and Forestry\u2019s national program, which aims to establish environmentally sound regions and promote sustainable development. They are presented to regencies or cities that have not only met minimum environmental standards but have also excelled in accordance with the assessment based on the Adipura criteria.<\/p>\n

The Adipura Trophy, awarded to the Tembokrejo material recovery facility (MRF), built by Project STOP<\/a>, in Muncar, Banyuwangi, is the first waste facility in Indonesia to receive this prestigious recognition from the Government of Indonesia. This is also the first time that the Government of Banyuwangi has received an Adipura Award specifically due to its waste facilities. The award underlines a successful collaborative effort between Project STOP<\/a>, co-founded by Borealis.<\/a> and Systemiq, and the local government in implementing circular waste management strategies with active community participation.<\/p>\n

The Banyuwangi Regent, Ipuk Fiestiandani, acknowledged the collaborative efforts, recognizing the challenges and commitment. She hopes the achievement inspires other villages, making a positive impact on the community and environment. Ipuk remains optimistic about the continued success of the collaboration, expressing this during the Adipura Plaque handover ceremony at the Tembokrejo MRF in Muncar on March 7, 2024. \u201cParticularly for the Project STOP<\/a> and other parties involved, I express my optimism for the continued success of our collaboration\u201d said Ipuk during the Adipura Plaque handover ceremony at the Tembokrejo Waste Facility in Muncar on 7 March 2024.<\/p>\n

The Banyuwangi Regent emphasized the importance of partnership between the local government and Project STOP<\/a> and the scale-up through the Project STOP Banyuwangi Hijau program, in raising the awareness of communities and enhancing the overall waste management system in Banyuwangi.<\/p>\n

The Acting Head of Banyuwangi\u2019s Environmental Service (DLH), Dwi Handjani, provided her perspective, emphasizing, “remarkably, we have achieved the highest score in Indonesia among the 20 assessment criteria. Collaborating with Project STOP, now expanded to Banyuwangi Hijau, has enabled us to enhance our waste management practices significantly. Embracing circular waste management approaches, we aim to minimize the adverse impacts of waste. This shift in paradigm towards the environment positions Banyuwangi as a model for waste management in Indonesia.”<\/p>\n

The achievement of the Adipura Plaque marks a significant landmark in Banyuwangi’s progress toward sustainable waste management, which continues with Project STOP Banyuwangi Hijau and the roll-out of waste services to hundreds of thousands more residents. It serves as both a celebration of accomplishments and an example of what can happen when the community, governmental and non-governmental organizations come together on a focused common environmental cause. Tentang Project STOP<\/strong><\/p>\n

Diluncurkan pada tahun 2017 oleh Borealis dan Systemiq, Project STOP (STop Ocean Plastics) bekerja sama dengan pemerintah kabupaten untuk menciptakan sistem pengelolaan sampah melingkar yang efektif di daerah-daerah berkebutuhan khusus di Asia Tenggara. Inisiatif ini mendukung kota-kota dengan keahlian teknis untuk mencapai nol kebocoran sampah, meningkatkan daur ulang, membangun program-program yang ekonomis berkelanjutan, menciptakan lapangan pekerjaan baru, dan mengurangi dampak buruk sampah yang tidak tertangani terhadap kesehatan masyarakat, pariwisata, dan perikanan. Kemitraan kota pertama dibentuk pada tahun 2017 di kota Muncar, Jawa Timur, diikuti oleh Pasuruan, Jawa Timur, dan Jembrana, Bali. Pada bulan Februari 2022, Project STOP Muncar dikelola pemerintah setempat dan masyarakat. Pada bulan Maret 2023, Project STOP Pasuruan diserahkan kepada pemerintah dan masyarakat, dan pada bulan Juni 2023, Project STOP Jembrana sepenuhnya diserahkan kepada pemerintah kabupaten setempat.<\/p>\n
