Komitmen hari ini dibuat pada Our Ocean Conference 2018, termasuk memprakarsai setidaknya dua kemitraan kota tambahan di negara Indonesia dan menggalang dana USD 10-15 juta untuk bantuan teknis, peran serta masyarakat, peningkatan infrastruktur, dan solusi pemulihan material kemasan lainnya.<\/p>\n<p>Komitmen ini dibuat berdasarkan perkembangan kemitraan kota Project STOP pertama di Muncar, Jawa Timur, Indonesia. Ini akan mencegah lebih dari 10.000 ton plastik masuk ke laut selama lima tahun ke depan, menciptakan lapangan kerja untuk masyarakat setempat, serta memberikan solusi dan inovasi yang dapat ditiru untuk kota-kota lain.<\/p>\n<p>Project STOP didirikan pada 2017 oleh Borealis, penyedia solusi inovatif di bidang poliolefin, bahan kimia dan pupuk dasar terkemuka, serta SYSTEMIQ, sebuah perusahaan konsultan dan investasi yang bertujuan untuk mengatasi kegagalan suatu sistem. Proyek ini bertujuan untuk menghentikan masuknya plastik ke lingkungan, dengan mengembangkan kemitraan dengan pemerintah kota untuk menciptakan sistem sikular yang efektif.<\/p>\n<p>Diperkirakan 80% dari sampah laut berasal dari daratan, dengan sekitar 50% berasal hanya dari lima negara perekonomian Asia. Seiring peningkatan pertumbuhan ekonomi di negara tersebut, menyebabkan meningkatnya konsumsi, yang telah melampaui perkembangan sistem pengelolaan sampah yang efektif.<\/p>\n<p>Di Indonesia, tantangannya sungguh besar: hanya 60% sampah yang dikumpulkan oleh sistem pengelolaan sampah kota, sisanya dibakar atau dibuang ke lingkungan. Mengakibatkan masuknya sampah ke lingkungan dan pengelolaan sampah yang buruk menjadi salah satu penyebab berkurangnya produktivitas perikanan dan pariwisata, serta berdampak negatif pada kesehatan masyarakat.<\/p>\n<p>Dalam menanggapi hal tersebut, pemerintah Indonesia mengumumkan komitmen untuk mengurangi tingkat plastik laut Indonesia sebesar 70% pada tahun 2025, dengan membuat Rencana Aksi Nasional Penanganan Sampah Laut. Pencapaian komitmen tersebut bergantung pada percepatan sistem pengelolaan sampah di tingkat kota, dikombinasikan dengan kebijakan tingkat sistem, inovasi, dan pendekatan desain bahan yang sirkular. Project STOP berkontribusi pada pemenuhan komitmen tersebut.<\/p>\n<p>Muncar, pelabuhan perikanan utama di Jawa Timur yang tidak memiliki sistem pengelolaan sampah yang efektif dan dipenuhi oleh sampah plastik di pelabuhan, pantai, dan sungai, dipilih sebagai lokasi pertama kemitraan kota Project STOP. Menurut survei rumah tangga sosial-ekonomi tentang kebiasaan membuang sampah yang dilakukan oleh Sustainable Waste Indonesia (SWI), 90% rumah tangga di Muncar tidak memiliki layanan pengumpulan sampah secara resmi. Akibatnya, sekitar 45% penduduk Muncar membuang sampah mereka ke sungai, 20% membakarnya, dan sisanya dibuang di darat atau dikubur. Mengingat ketertarikan industri yang tinggi untuk mendukung Project STOP, ekspansinya sekarang dapat dimulai lebih awal dari yang direncanakan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKami benar-benar percaya bahwa perubahan dapat diwujudkan!
